Lanzarote landscape

We know this may not be what you expected to read, but we prefer to be honest with you

As a small company rooted in Lanzarote, we recognise that our mere existence has an impact on the island. That is why, from the start, we have made a clear commitment: to find the balance between profitability and our values, being honest about our contradictions and aware that sustainability is a journey, not a perfect state.

Arena Negra Cares is born from that perspective. Not as a grandiose promise, but as a way of working, deciding and evolving with coherence.

We create products, experiences and events with quality, care and respect for people and the environment at the center. We are committed to responsible processes, carefully selected materials and collaborations aligned with our way of understanding work.

Our goal is not to produce more, but to produce better. Designing pieces and experiences with meaning, that endure and justify their existence beyond the immediate.

CONSCIOUS AND RESPONSIBLE PRODUCTION

We work on demand, avoiding overproduction and excess stock. This way of producing allows us to reduce waste, care for resources and maintain real control over each phase of the process.

We seek suppliers who share our values, prioritising those who work with recycled, organic or certified materials, and who operate under ethical and responsible practices. Although our size and location pose logistical challenges, we remain firm in making decisions aligned with our environmental commitment.

OUR PRODUCTS

At Arena Negra we combine aesthetics and functionality, highlighting the quality and customisation of our creations. We are committed to producing only what is necessary, integrating circularity principles into our processes and exploring innovative and sustainable materials.

SUSTAINABLE MATERIALS

We work with high quality, low impact materials, selected with a responsible vision towards the planet. Therefore, although there is still a long way to go, we have increased the use of certified organic cotton and recycled fibres to minimise our environmental impact.

Responsible packaging and shipping

Responsible packaging and shipping

Our packaging is minimalist and practical, designed to protect each piece without excess and with respect for the environment. We use FSC certified paper and cardboard and avoid plastics whenever possible.

Our outermost region status involves logistical challenges, so we prioritise maritime transport over air and offer carbon neutral shipping.

In addition, we have eliminated express shipping to reduce its environmental impact, opting for responsible planning.

Internal shop logistics

Internal logistics

At Arena Negra, we are committed to continuously improving our environmental impact, not only in our products, but also in our shop and daily operations.

When preparing the opening of our shop in Puerto del Carmen, we have invested in energy efficiency projects that help us reduce our carbon footprint.

These improvements include the installation of LED lighting and an efficient air conditioning system.

Arena Negra is deeply rooted in Lanzarote. We are committed to collaborating with artisans, small businesses and local projects, fostering a closer, fairer and more circular economy.

Part of our profits are allocated to supporting social and environmental causes, and we continue to build partnerships that allow us to generate a real positive impact on the community that welcomes us.

GIVING BACK TO SOCIETY, SOCIAL COMMITMENT

We support the creation of local employment, collaborating with Lanzarote artisans and promoting the circular economy in our community. In addition, we collaborate with local NGOs on environmental and social projects.

OUR ALIGNMENT
WITH THE SDGs

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted in 2015 by the 193 UN Member States, provides a shared global plan to achieve peace and prosperity for people and the planet, both now and in the future. The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are an urgent and necessary call to action through global cooperation.

As part of our commitment to creating a positive impact on the climate and the society in which we work, we recognise the importance of the UN SDGs. Our focus on sustainability, responsible production and community support aligns us with several SDGs. Below, we explain the current and future actions that Arena Negra is implementing to fulfil the Agenda.

CURRENT ACTIONS

Arena Negra collaborates with artisans and local suppliers in Lanzarote and the province of Las Palmas, fostering the island's economy and supporting fair and sustainable employment. Each custom product we offer is handmade, ensuring fair remuneration for artisans and promoting local economic growth.

PLANS FOR THE NEXT 5 YEARS

Arena Negra plans to expand its collaboration with more local artisans, offering training and employment opportunities to young people and those seeking to integrate into the island's economy.

CURRENT ACTIONS

We are constantly seeking suppliers with sustainability certifications, and we are committed to innovation in the use of organic, recycled and biodegradable materials. In addition, we apply efficient and environmentally friendly production processes in our shop.

PLANS FOR THE NEXT 5 YEARS

Arena Negra plans to incorporate new technologies that further optimise sustainable production, such as energy-efficient machinery and waste reduction technologies. We will also explore opportunities to improve our infrastructure, implementing more sustainable practices in our daily shop operations and expanding our partnerships with companies developing innovative materials.

CURRENT ACTIONS

We produce in small quantities on demand, reducing excess inventory and waste. We also use recycled and organic materials, and our packaging is biodegradable and compostable. We ensure that all processes respect the environment and that our products are manufactured ethically.

PLANS FOR THE NEXT 5 YEARS

Over the next five years, Arena Negra will seek ways to further integrate circularity into its business model. This will include programmes to encourage the reuse and recycling of products at the end of their useful life, as well as implementing incentives for customers who return their packaging for recycling. We will also increase the use of innovative low-impact materials and improve the traceability of our supply chain.

CURRENT ACTIONS

Arena Negra is committed to reducing its carbon footprint, optimising logistics and using environmentally neutral shipping whenever possible. We also prioritise maritime transport over air to reduce emissions.

PLANS FOR THE NEXT 5 YEARS

We plan to establish a comprehensive emissions reduction strategy to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030. We also intend to collaborate with local NGOs working on ecological restoration and carbon offset projects. The goal is to implement reforestation and regeneration programmes in Lanzarote and other areas affected by climate change.

CURRENT ACTIONS

Although Arena Negra is not currently directly involved in marine conservation, our location in Lanzarote makes us especially aware of the importance of protecting marine ecosystems.

PLANS FOR THE NEXT 5 YEARS

Arena Negra aims to collaborate with local NGOs to participate in beach clean-ups and marine protection projects in Lanzarote. In addition, we plan to launch a product line whose profits will be allocated to marine life conservation and the protection of ocean ecosystems.

CURRENT ACTIONS

We select organic materials that respect terrestrial ecosystems, and we support suppliers who practice ethical agriculture and production, protecting biodiversity and natural resources.

PLANS FOR THE NEXT 5 YEARS

Arena Negra plans to strengthen its commitment to protecting local ecosystems through collaborations with foundations working on natural environment conservation in Lanzarote. We will also explore the possibility of organising reforestation activities on the island and campaigns to educate the community about the importance of ecosystem preservation.

CURRENT ACTIONS

Arena Negra collaborates with local artisans and seeks partnerships with certified suppliers and NGOs created by locals for locals. These partnerships are fundamental to our commitment to sustainability and community support.

PLANS FOR THE NEXT 5 YEARS

Over the next five years, Arena Negra aims to expand its strategic partnerships, both locally and globally. We plan to work with more organisations and companies that share our values of sustainability and social responsibility. We also want to strengthen our relationships with local NGOs, supporting environmental and social impact projects that generate direct benefits for the community and the environment.

Path towards carbon neutrality

TOWARDS CARBON
NEUTRALITY

Fully controlling emissions from our supply chain is a challenge, especially given our current size and capacity. However, at Arena Negra we are firmly committed to reducing our carbon footprint as much as possible. The first step will be to measure our emissions, and we plan to use 2026, our second year of operations, as a starting point to measure and set clear targets with the goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2030.

We are not perfect, nor do we pretend to be. We are aware of our limitations and the challenges involved in creating responsibly. But we are also committed to improving, learning and moving forward step by step.

We believe in transparency and in the importance of sharing this journey with those who trust Arena Negra. Every decision counts. Every small gesture adds up.

Arena Negra Cares is our way of taking care of what matters today, so we can keep creating tomorrow.
